Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured their spot in the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a goalless draw against the debutants, Republic of Ireland.
The Falcons put up a strong defense, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie making crucial saves, including a shot by Katie McCabe in the 5th minute.
Nigeria’s best chance came from striker Asisat Oshoala in the 14th minute, but her shot missed the target.

Next, the Falcons will face the winners of Group D in Brisbane, which could be England if they draw with or beat China.
This achievement is historic for Nigeria as it’s the first time they’ve avoided defeat in all three group-stage matches. They’ve also become the first African team to qualify for the round of 16 in the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup.
