The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sent a petition to the National Peace Committee chaired by Abdulsalami Abubakar, following the alleged attacks by the state governor, Yahaya Bello.
The party disclosed plans by state officials to plant incriminating exhibits in some homes with a view to obtaining and executing a search warrant on them to facilitate arrests of the owners.
The petition, dated 27th October, was exclusively obtained by Quest Times on Sunday. It was titled, “Complaint/Notice of Threat and Security by the Government of Kogi State”.

“In an attempt to intimidate and scuttle the will of the people of Kogi in the upcoming elections, particularly the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District who have become wary of his poor leadership style, the Governor has been moving one place to another in Kogi with his appointees and rented and brandishing the threat of “ira chenyi” on those who dare stand against his party candidates in the election. He has been doing all of these in the guise of threatening criminals in the State.
“The series of events leading to this complaint is rather unfortunate, to say the least, particularly that the same Governor that took oath of allegiance to the people and the law is now the one championing and sowing seeds of discord in the land.
“We accordingly call on you as a highly respected and senior citizen and leader of Nigeria who has sacrificed his personal and family for the peace and development of Nigeria to as always take urgent steps to forestall the grave consequences of the Governor of Kogi,” the statement partly read.
The party also called on the National Peace Committee to intervene considering “the antecedents of the governor in Kogi and Okene in particular”.
