Afrobeat sensation, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, ignited a fiery exchange on social media over the weekend.
The spark was ignited by a seemingly innocuous comment from an Abuja-based barber, Callistus Okolie, a self-proclaimed Wizkid fan.
Okolie, in a now-deleted comment on Davido’s Instagram post showcasing his Dubai trip, labeled the superstar as the “only 3rd man in the music industry 003.”
The comment, meant to be a dig at Davido’s status in the music scene, quickly caught the attention of the musician.
In a swift response, Davido shot back, expressing his disappointment at Okolie’s remark. He even teased about potentially visiting Abuja for a haircut, had Okolie not been too busy on social media.
Davido went on to highlight his track record of supporting his barbers, insinuating that Okolie had missed out on an opportunity by prioritizing online banter over real-life connections.
“My last three barbers, I opened shops for them. That is how you missed your generation’s blessing”, he added.
The altercation didn’t end there. Okolie retaliated the following day, posting a video of his impeccable haircut skills, indirectly suggesting that Davido had missed out on the chance to experience the best barbering service in Abuja.
But Okolie didn’t stop at showcasing his skills; he doubled down on his allegiance to Wizkid, asserting that the “Starboy” remained his top pick in the music industry.
“FC does not beg, write it down, FC does not beg. Wizkid remains my 001 in the music industry, no cap. I did not say that to hurt anyone or to pull anybody down. Again, there is a statement Davido made that he was coming to Abuja and I would have been his barber, I would have been the person to cut his hair, how?”, he wrote.
He added, “Do you know me before that I would have been your barber? If not for my comment would you have replied to me? Let’s be realistic, do you know me before? You don’t know me before? FC is number one. Apart from that, I’m not begging anybody, Davido is not my helper, because whoever will help me will not stress me, Portable has said it before.”
