The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have shut down no fewer than 62 illegal degree-awarding institutions in Nigeria.

The Commission’s Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, who made this known on Tuesday at a Youth Dialogue on Corruption in Tertiary Institutions in Abuja, said fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camps, were also shut down.
The Chairman, who was represented by Hannatu Mohammed, ICPC Board member in-charge of youth, Owasanoye, said the commission had prosecuted the perpetrators. He added that no nation will develop beyond the level and quality of its education.
“The ICPC set up anti-corruption vanguards in schools to push the fight against corruption, particularly tertiary institutions.

“The anti-corruption vanguards equip the student members with the capacity to develop zero tolerance for corruption and to inculcate attitudinal change among their colleagues.
“The ICPC conducted System Study and Review in the university system to identify activities that fueled corruption.
“The study discovered bribery, gratification, sexual harassment and sexual inducement, examination malpractices, over invoicing and over-inflation contract values,” he added.
