Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano State, paid a historic visit to Kano State on Wednesday, three years after the previous visit.
He was deposed as Emir by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration on March 9, 2020.
Sanusi II, the leader of Nigeria’s Tijjaniyya Order, arrived at Aminu Kano International Airport and proceeded to his mother’s residence on Ibrahim Dabo Road.
In video footage, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, dressed in full emir regalia, was seen greeting various delegations of family members, traditional title holders, and well-wishers.
However, when contacted, the former Emir clarified that he was in Kano on his way to Dutse, and that due to bad weather, he was unable to fly directly to Jigawa State, forcing him to stop in Kano.
“I couldn’t go directly to Jigawa State because of bad weather, and as I touched down in Kano, hundreds of people stormed the place and asked me to at least go and greet my mother which I did,” Sanusi said.
He, however, reminded that as a citizen he has the right to go anywhere in Nigeria. Furthermore, he said there was a court judgement that allows him to visit any state he wants in the country.
