Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, was officially sworn into office yesterday as new Governor following the unfortunate demise of Rotimi Akeredolu, who battled Cancer and Leukaemia.
With Aiyedatiwa now at the helm in Ondo, the search for a new Deputy Governor is underway, prompting political deliberations within the state and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Insiders suggest that Aiyedatiwa may consider appointing a Deputy Governor from his loyal cabinet members who stood by him during a challenging period when the Ondo Assembly attempted to impeach him.
Leading the list of potential candidates are Chief of Staff, Olugbenga Ale, hailing from Owo, the hometown of the late Governor Akeredolu, and Commissioner of Energy and Water Resources, Rasaq Obe, from Ifedore in Ondo Central senatorial district.
Political speculations hint at the possibility of Chief Ale being favored as a tribute to the late Akeredolu, while others believe Aiyedatiwa might choose Obe, potentially leading to a shift in the Speaker’s seat from Ondo Central to Ondo North, stirring discussions and agitations.
