There is a mixed reaction in the ancient city of Kano on Monday as the state government returned the portrait of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II on to the coronation hall wall of Kano State Government.
The return of the image of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano, to the coronation hall wall of the Kano State Government House on Monday elicited a range of reactions in the historic city of Kano.
Since then, discussions on the portrait have dominated social media
Many residents consider the reappearance of the image as indication that the deposed emir would be reinstated.
In an interview with THE QUEST TIMES, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the history of the coronation hall is synonymous with Malam Muhammadu Sanusi.
He said this is because it was built for his presentation of staff of office after he was crowned as the emir succeeding late Alhaji Ado Bayero in 2014 during the administration of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“So traditionally, his picture shall remain there forever. Bringing back the picture of the 14th is part of the ongoing rehabilitation to give the coronation hall a face lift”, he said.
However, Ashraf Sunusi, the deposed emir’s son, hinted at the 14th Emir’s return on Twitter.
Ashraf shared the viral picture of the image reinstatement and wrote, “When we said there’s news they were doubting 👏🏾“
It could be recalled that Ganduje had divided the State Emirate Councils into five of main Kano, Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya with the Emir of Kano as the Chairman of the State Councils of Emirs
