President Muhammadu Buhari has distanced himself from reports making the rounds on social media that he has anointed Senate President Ahmad Lawan as consensus candidate, ahead of the APC presidential primary election.
“I have anointed no one and there shall be no imposition,” the president, who is recognised as leader of the governing political party, declares.
During a meeting with governors from Nigeria’s northern region, the president added that; “You were elected as I was. Have a clear mind as I have. God gave us the chance; we have no reason to complain.
“We must be ready to take pain as we take the joy. Allow the delegates to decide. The party must participate, nobody will appoint anybody.”
The president has however been hinting that he’s got a horse in the race.
APC delegates will begin voting for a presidential flag-bearer on Tuesday, June 7.
