Troops of the Nigerian army have rescued six of the abducted students of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, which occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Recall, Quest Times reported that armed bandits stormed the Sabon-Gida community of the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted an unspecified number of students at the Federal University of Gusau.
It was gathered that about 24 student were kidnapped from their hostels by the bandits with most of them being females.
According to a source, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed is currently leading the operation with other security agencies in the forest along Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Some bandits were killed by the troops during the rescue operation with some weapons recovered.
A resident of Sabon-Gida identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida also confirmed that the gunmen invaded the community around 3 am and started shooting sporadically.
According to him, three students’ hostels were attacked and all the students in the hostels were taken away by the bandits.
Security agencies said efforts are ongoing to rescue other victims unhurt.
This is the fourth time in nine months students of the University were abducted.
The operation was carried out by a joint Task Force North-West operation HADARIN DAJI under the commanding 8 division Nigerian army.
