The Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, has swiftly addressed the viral video featuring a soldier criticizing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Lagbaja assured the public that the soldier in question, caught driving against traffic, does not represent the values of the Nigerian Army.
Emphasizing the importance of discipline, Lagbaja confirmed the soldier’s apprehension and ongoing investigation to journalists.
“The army has investigated; that soldier has been apprehended, and we are investigating. For every other comical act that you have seen, they are not personnel of the Nigerian Army. We have investigated that,” he said.
Quest Times recalls that Governor Sanwo-Olu ordered the arrest of a soldier and three motorcyclists for violating traffic rules on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, shared videos depicting the chaos caused by lawless motorcyclists fleeing upon sighting the Governor’s convoy.
The Army Chief also clarified that only one soldier criticized the governor on social media, assuring that the army takes such matters seriously.
Lagbaja further emphasized the commitment to upholding the law and discipline within the army ranks, stating, “I want to say that the soldier who was apprehended by the Governor of Lagos State while plying on the one-way does not represent the Nigerian Army because, in every respect, it contravenes what we stand for, which is discipline as an army and the constitution and the laws of Lagos. We frowned upon that, as did the army.”
