The Lagos State Police Command has begun probing a petition filed by Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, against Grammy nominee Davido.
As gathered by Quest Times, Tiwa Savage alleged bullying and threats to her life by Davido, who responded disrespectfully to a social media post featuring herself and Sophia Momodu.
The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday, confirmed receiving the petition and stated, “I can confirm to you that we have received the petition and investigation has commenced.”
In the petition, Tiwa Savage detailed the events leading to her complaint, expressing disappointment at Davido’s behaviour and highlighting her support during difficult times, including the loss of his son.
She claimed to have received calls from mutual connections questioning her relationship with Sophia Momodu.
Tiwa Savage further alleged that Davido warned her through mutual connections, stating that she should be cautious in Lagos as he intended to harm her.
“I responded to MR. DAVID ADELEKE’s message and told him not to reach out to me, especially as I feel like I have been there for him and his daughter, Imade, and more importantly when he lost his son. The events of that day have also led to a barrage of calls and messages from our mutual connections, asking me what I did to MR. DAVID ADELEKE that he’s upset that I chose to maintain a relationship with Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu, who he’s having issues with and also painting the exchange to look like I was the aggressor,” the petition read in part.
She also described Davido’s actions as online and offline harassment, posing a threat to her rights to life, privacy, and dignity.
The dispute between the two artistes gained attention when they unfollowed each other on Instagram on January 6, 2024.
While the cause remains unclear, speculation suggests a strain in their relationship due to Tiwa Savage’s association with Sophia Momodu.
Before Tiwa Savage’s petition, music executive Tee Billz had criticized Davido for disrespecting his family, accusing him of bullying Tiwa Savage.
As of the report, Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, was unreachable for comment.
