The assistant referee who allegedly elbowed Liverpool’s Andy Robertson during their match with Arsenal at Anfield, is under investigation by English Premier League officials.
The incident occurred during an altercation at the end of the first half between the linesman, Constantine Hatzidakis, and Robertson.
Television footage seemed to show Hatzidakis make contact with Robertson’s throat with his elbow.
Robertson reportedly accused Hatzidakis of elbowing him in the tunnel during halftime, with Liverpool’s captain Jordan Henderson reportedly raising the issue with referee Paul Tierney.
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), responsible for referees, will investigate the incident, according to a statement issued shortly before full-time.
The statement said that the body is aware of the incident and will review the matter in full once the game was concluded.
In the match, Liverpool recovered from a 2-0 deficit, with Roberto Firmino scoring a late equalizer to prevent Arsenal from winning.
The incident adds to the growing concern about the standard of officiating in the Premier League.
