In Bauchi metropolis, the State Police Command has reported the arrest of a 35-year-old man accused of attempting to harm his wife using a pestle.
As gathered by Quest Times, the police disclosed that the man’s alleged plan included selling the household television to furnish his shop.
According to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the incident unfolded when the man, identified as Tijjani Ahmadu Diye, raised a false alarm about a supposed robbery in their home on December 2, 2023.
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, explained, “On receipt of the report, a team of detectives was drafted to the scene and evacuated the victim to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was accorded necessary medical attention.”
Further investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to the accusations without much resistance.
The statement also outlined the sequence of events, indicating that the man entered the bedroom, asked his wife to cover her head with a scarf, then returned armed with a pestle, hitting her with the intention of causing harm.
Moreover, the suspect admitted to having ulterior motives, stating, “He intended to neutralize her and take their television to sell it and raise money to furnish his shop.”
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation for a thorough investigation.
Subsequently, the suspect will face charges in court, as authorities aim to unravel more details surrounding the incident, the PPRO added.
