In an earnest plea to Nigerians, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has urged citizens not to hastily judge the military, following an accidental drone incident in Tudun Biri community, Kaduna State, last Sunday.
General Musa while speaking at the graduation of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 45 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, emphasized the unintentional nature of the incident.
He implored Nigerians not to demoralize the troops dedicated to addressing the nation’s security challenges.
”The incident wasn’t on purpose. We are meant to protect Nigerians and cannot be seen killing them,” General Musa clarified, underlining the military’s commitment to safeguarding human lives.
Quest Times further reports that he appealed for support and prayers from the public, stressing that the troops aim to end all forms of insecurity in the nation.
Despite the mishap, a group of North-based lawyers plans legal action against the federal government, and the House of Representatives has pledged to oversee the investigation into the incident.
In a subsequent interview at the Chief of Defence Staff Armed Forces and Security Agencies Half Marathon Championship 2023 in Abuja, General Musa assured the public that the military would take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence.
“We pray for the repose of those that have died and those that are injured. We will make sure that they are provided for,” he expressed, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of the Federal Government and citizens to address the aftermath.
Moreover, he thanked Nigerians for their understanding and support, emphasizing that the unfortunate incident was not intentional.
Musa affirmed the military’s dedication to restoring peace and tranquility in Nigeria, promising to work diligently towards achieving this goal with the collective support of the nation.
