Three persons have been confirmed dead from explosions at the Oyinoyi’s Palace in Okenne Local Government Area of Kogi State, ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state.
The Kogi State Government had declared Thursday, December 29, 2022 a public holiday as the state prepares to receive President Buhari for the commissioning of legacy projects of the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration.
A statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, on Sunday, urged the people of Kogi State to come out en-masse to receive the President and display the hospitality they are known for.
The state government also urged all labour unions and security agencies in Kogi State to ensure full compliance.
However, Quest Times sighted police operatives of the Anti-Bomb Unit at the scene of the incident.
It is however not clear if the explosion was as a result of a bomb being detonated or a target attack at the President.
According to eyewitnesses, three people were killed by the blast, with some others injured.
An eye witness said, “a car with explosives was driven into the palace this morning and shortly after, the car exploded.”
The source said the identity of the driver could not yet be ascertained.
