The Borno State Government has appealed to residents to remain calm, as work is ongoing to resolve the light issue, assuring them that power will soon be restored to all parts of the metropolis and Jere Local Government Area.
This was according to a statement made available to newsmen by the State Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Aliyu Mohammed Bamanga, who gave the assurance.
The statement is coming on the heels of the total blackout witnessed in the state in recent times.
The commissioner stated, “The Borno State Government has coordinated and brought together all stakeholders, and the Maiduguri Emergency Backup system was activated, restoring power to parts of the city.”
In the statement, the commissioner conveyed Governor Zulum’s concern over the blackout and his commitment towards resolving the issue promptly.
He said, “Governor Zulum expressed deep concern over the power outage and its adverse effects on the people of Borno State.”
Also, the commissioner stated that the governor acknowledged the hardships faced by citizens resulting from the blackout, hence, he emphasized that the Borno State Government will continue to encourage all relevant stakeholders and ensure that all necessary efforts are being mobilized to expedite the restoration of power to other areas currently without electricity.
In addition, Commissioner Mohammed expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) and other stakeholders for their support.
