27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision to defect is widely believed to be linked to the escalating political tension gripping the state. This tension reached a boiling point when the Rivers State Assembly Complex was set ablaze on October 29th, bringing the internal strife within the assembly to public attention.
Accusations have flown amidst the chaos, with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, pointing fingers at Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of orchestrating the arson at a section of the State House Assembly complex.
The internal discord within the State House of Assembly escalated further, leading some lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. However, these proceedings were brought to a halt following the timely intervention of President Tinubu, preventing a potentially tumultuous political crisis in the region.
