In a bid to celebrate the Easter festivities, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially announced public holidays for Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024.
This declaration was made known through a press statement signed by Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the decision was made to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday, which hold significant religious importance for Christians across the country.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Honourable Minister of Interior, conveyed the government’s message, urging all Nigerians, particularly Christians, to reflect on the values of sacrifice, love, and forgiveness exemplified by Jesus Christ during Easter.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that beyond its religious connotations, Easter serves as a reminder of the importance of love, forgiveness, and compassion in fostering social cohesion and harmony.
He urged citizens to embrace these virtues, noting their potential to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development by promoting unity, reducing conflicts, and encouraging cooperation among its diverse populace.
Furthermore, the Minister called upon Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity, especially towards the less privileged members of society.
