One of the leading candidates vying for the governorship seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Paul Akintelure, has sadly passed away.
The late Akintelure had expressed concerns about his safety due to various threats he received, both directly and indirectly. Despite hoping for an improvement in the situation, he continued to face escalating dangers.
In a statement made on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure remarked, “Initially, I hope these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life.
“The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward.
“Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity. Our collective strength lies in our standing together as one, regardless of our differences.”
Akintelure’s political journey included running as the deputy governorship candidate alongside Rotimi Akeredolu under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) ticket, although they were defeated by Olusegun Mimiko of the Labour Party. Additionally, he contested in a senatorial election under the APC banner but was unsuccessful.
Beyond his political endeavors, Akintelure was a dedicated medical doctor, originating from Igbotako in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
