The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has died following a prolonged battle with leukemia.
A family source revealed on Wednesday that Akeredolu breathed his last in Lagos, under the care of State House doctors who, regrettably, couldn’t move him abroad for treatment.
“He passed away in Lagos,” the source confirmed. “Efforts to locate dialysis machines for his treatment in a secret location in Lagos were underway just last week.”
The 67-year-old governor had returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany. Recently, he took another leave as directed by President Bola Tinubu, handing over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who has been serving as Acting Governor.
During his September return, Akeredolu faced criticism for attempting to govern from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, leading to public outrage.
