Nigeria has voiced serious worry about the rising tensions in the Middle East following Iran’s surprising assault on Israel.
The attack has sparked fears of a larger conflict in a region where Nigeria is advocating for everyone to agree on solving issues peacefully.
Iran escalated the ongoing tension between the two neighboring nations when it launched an unprecedented attack on Saturday night.
The assault included more than 300 projectiles, consisting of approximately 170 drones and over 120 ballistic missiles, aimed at Israel. According to Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari, about 350 rockets were fired from Iran, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Numerous global leaders, including Nigeria, have expressed their concerns regarding Iran’s aggressive move against Israel.
President Bola Tinubu, through Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged both Iran and Israel to exercise restraint and prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.
“In this critical time, it’s crucial for both countries to think about the global commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, which is essential for enhancing worldwide peace and security,” the statement noted.
