The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment in an appeal by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Saidu Umar, against the election of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu.
The five-member panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, concluded the hearing and adjourned for judgment after considering arguments from all parties involved.
This legal tussle stems from the Court of Appeal in Abuja affirming Aliyu’s election, prompting Umar and the PDP to challenge the eligibility of Aliyu and his deputy, Idris Gobir, for the governorship position. Their claims also include allegations of irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act of 2022 during the election.
However, the Court of Appeal dismissed their appeal, citing a lack of merit.
