In a bid to boost the agricultural sector and facilitate smoother business transactions, the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), has pledged to expedite the inspection and certification processes required for exporting agricultural goods.
The newly appointed Comptroller-General, Godwin Audu, in a statement issued by the service in Abuja, emphasized the commitment to enhancing the ease of doing business within the sector, aligning with the efforts of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council.
Audu, who assumed his role after the handover from Vincent Isegbe, the agency’s pioneer Comptroller-General, outlined key focus areas, ensuring a swift and efficient process for agro-exporters.
He stated, “NAQS is committed to enhancing the export environment by expediting inspection and certification services, streamlining application processes and automating quarantine procedures.”
Addressing challenges related to double taxation, Audu expressed the agency’s determination to optimize operations at interstate control stations, minimizing delays in agro-commodity haulage.
Quest Times also learned that collaborative efforts with stakeholders will be prioritized to eliminate illegal operators causing bottlenecks on federal highways.
Highlighting the significance of maintaining discipline and inclusiveness within the organization, Audu emphasized that this approach would foster the development of officers and ensure equal opportunities for all personnel.
