The Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives have jointly announced a delay in their scheduled resumption dates.
Originally set for Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the new date for reconvening is now Tuesday, April 23, 2024. This postponement was conveyed to the senators and representatives through official channels, citing various reasons for the delay.
Chinedu Akubueze, the Clerk to the Senate, sent a brief message informing the senators of the change, attributing it to “unforeseen circumstances.” Meanwhile, the House of Representatives, through its Clerk, Yahaya Danzaria, explained that ongoing renovations in the main chambers necessitated the extension.
These renovations aim to ensure that the legislative premises are in optimal condition for the return of lawmakers.
The decision to delay resumption in both chambers was made during the ongoing Easter and Sallah break, a customary period for legislators to observe these religious holidays.
While specific details of the unforeseen circumstances were not disclosed, the Senate’s message to its members expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the change in plans.
