The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and affiliated unions are gearing up for nationwide protests amid mounting concerns over the country’s soaring cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and overall hardships.
At the heart of the mobilization efforts, the Labour House headquarters in Abuja witnessed a flurry of activity as union workers and concerned citizens streamed in as early as 7:12 a.m.
A visible presence of Department of State Services operatives was seen, indicating heightened tensions surrounding the planned demonstrations.
The NLC and the Trade Union Congress had issued a 14-day strike notice to the Federal Government on February 8, citing the government’s failure to implement agreements reached on October 2, particularly regarding the removal of the fuel subsidy.
With the government allegedly falling short of meeting its commitments within the ultimatum period, organized labor has scheduled a two-day nationwide protest on Tuesday, February 27, and Wednesday, February 28.
Mobilization efforts kicked into high gear last Monday, as labor unions across the country rallied their members to raise awareness about the challenges stemming from the increase in cost of living.
