Eccentric, self-styled entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy, has expressed disappointment in renowned playwright, Wole Soyinka.
Charly Boy has also referred to Soyinka as a ‘boyi boyi’, which roughly translates to a servant, errand boy or vassal.
Taking to his social media pages, Charly Boy blasted Soyinka ‘for degrading himself to becoming a servant for criminal politicians.’
Area Fada, as he is popularly known, was making reference to Soyinka’s remarks wherein he attacked the Labour Party vice-presidential candidate in the last election, Datti Baba Ahmed and supporters of Peter Obi, popularly referred to as Obidients.
Describing it as a shame, he noted how he always had deep respect for Soyinka and how he placed the nobel laureate on the same pedestal as the late Chinua Achebe.
Charly Boy writes in pidgin; “The kin respect I had for dis man, was almost the kind of respect I had for my stainless father, The Socrates of the Supreme Court.
“It has finally dawned on me that Soyinka can never be the man Chinua Achebe was.
“Look at a man many Nigerians put on such a high pedestal, reducing himself to a boyiboyi for criminal politicians.
“What a f*cking shame.”
Soyinka has been called out and attacked by a baying mob on social media all week long, after he described the Obidient movement and the remarks of Datti Baba-Ahmed, vice presidential candidate of the LP in the Feb 25 election, as fascist and unbecoming.
Datti-Ahmed had insisted that if President-elect Tinubu is inaugurated on May 29, Nigeria’s democracy will come to an end.
Peter Obi’s Labour Party polled third in the election, as declared by electoral umpire INEC.
Labour Party and Atiku’s PDP, are challenging the outcome of the election in courtrooms, on the grounds of alleged irregularities.
