The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a father, identified as Nnajiofor Nweke for allegedly flogging his son’s teacher to death at Alihami Secondary School in Agbor, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Quest Times gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 18th October , 2023, after the suspect’s son was disciplined over alleged theft of palm wine.
DSP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, who confirmed the incident said the suspect’s son and other students of the school had gone to a palm wine shop and allegedly stole two kegs of palm wine.
Subsequently, the matter was reported to the school authorities after which the students were identified and then flogged as part of a disciplinary measure.
Nnajiofor Nweke who had gotten information about the punishment given to his child, angrily stormed the school with a cane and started flogging teachers randomly.
Unfortunately, one of the teachers, Sunday Ufah, slumped during the attack, he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The PPRO stated, “Failed parenting!!! Now turned into a murder case On 18th October 2023, the suspect Nnajiofor Nweke, a father of one student (name withheld) at Alihame Mixed secondary School Agbor, on the said date, his son alongside some other students went to a palm wine shop and allegedly stole two kegs of palm wine”.
“The matter was reported to the school authorities and the students were flogged. The suspect came to the school in protest, with a cane, and started flogging teachers in the school”.
“One of the teachers slumped and died. The suspect is currently in SCID undergoing investigation for a suspected case of murder. See what I am always talking about today parenting. Now him don buy market” the PPRO added.
This incident was followed by a protest, organized by the Ika South chapter of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Delta State, on Thursday, 19th October 2023, they protested over the alleged killing of a teacher, Sunday Ufah, in the school compound.
The teachers narrated the ordeal, “The father went to the school and used a cane to hit the teacher. Immediately, the teacher fell and started battling for life. Nobody touched the man because of fear”.
“As the man left, we rushed the teacher to a hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival”.
While, speaking at the peaceful protest, the branch Chairman, NUT Ika South, Isaac Arimokwu, said, “We are embarking on a peaceful protest over the sudden death of one of us, late Sunday Ufah, after a sudden attack on the members of staff of Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor on Wednesday.
Furthermore, “We are calling on the Delta State Government and the police to bring the perpetrator to book.”
