Senator Dino Melaye has described Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Olukayode Ariwoola as a suspect awaiting trial, following his alleged romance with the G5 Governors led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Melaye, who doubles as the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Management Committee, in a statement he personally signed, asked the CJN to resign from his office having abused same office by dabbling into partisan politics.
Melaye was reacting to the CJN’s remark about Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde being a member of the aggrieved PDP G5 Governors– a rebel faction within the opposition PDP.
The PDP spokesperson, a two-time member of the National Assembly, said the CJN’s comment had turned him into a person that could not be trusted with fair dispensation of justice in Nigeria.
Melaye said, “With the scandalous conduct of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, it has become expedient and a matter of honour that he resigns from the exalted office that he has demonstrably abused.
“If he chooses to prolong his stay in office, to continue to serve the interests of his political friends, he may choose to recuse himself as Chairman of the National Judicial Council, turn himself in as a suspect, proceed on leave and allow for a thorough evaluation of his conduct in line with the provisions of Section 5 of the Code of Conduct for judicial officers.”
