The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that it welcomes the decision of the National Council of State to pardon some convicted public officials who were prosecuted by the anti-graft agency.
Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa made the agency’s stance known in an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday, May 6, 2022.
Recall that the council made up of sitting and ex-presidents, pardoned former Governors of Plateau and Taraba States, Sen Joshua Dariye and Rev Jolly Nyame on April 14, 2022, to widespread outrage from Nigerians following their earlier conviction for corruption.

Speaking on Politics Today, Bawa responding to a question on if the EFCC wasn’t perturbed by the President’s move to pardon public officials it prosecuted and secured convictions against, said Nigerians should trust the decision of the Council of State, seeing as they acted within the confines of the law.
“We have done our part, ours is to investigate and prosecute. As I have said time and time again, Nigerians need to learn to trust our leaders. It is within the prerogative of the government to do what they did and we welcome it with open arms.
“The Council of State is the highest executive decision-making body and they came up with that position, we have to trust and respect their position. Bawa said.
