The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye in Ogun State, has announced the suspension of academic activities from Monday, 20th February till Tuesday 14 March, 2023, following the directive by the National Universities Commission.
The NUC had ordered the closure of universities in the country ahead of the 2023 presidential and governorship elections in the country.
The Registrar of university, Femi Ogunwomoju disclosed this in a memo dated 17th of February 2023, and addressed to students.
According to the memo, the senate approved that virtual lectures should take place during this period, noting that students are expected to attend lectures on-line while at home.
The statement reads in part; “Senate at its 417th (Emergency) Meeting held on Friday, 17th February, 2023 considered the directive of the National Universities Commission (NUC) that academic activities be suspended during the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.
“Consequently, Senate approved that PHYSICAL ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES be SUSPENDED from MONDAY, 20TH FEBRUARY till TUESDAY 14 MARCH, 2023.
“In addition, Senate APPROVED that VIRTUAL LECTURES should take place during this period. Students are therefore expected to attend Lectures on-line while at home.
“The 2021/2022 Academic Calendar will also be adjusted as appropriate to accommodate this development.
“Finally. Students are advised to IMMEDIATELY vacate their Halls of Residence and travel back to their various homes,” the statement added.
