The X platform, previously recognized as Twitter, hit a snag today, causing a substantial disruption for users trying to check their timelines.
Quest Times reports that people on mobile apps found their timelines frozen, while the web version welcomed users with a message saying, “Welcome to X! This is the best place to see what’s happening in your world. Find some people and topics to follow now.”
Even though posting still works, the posts disappear upon refresh. Notably, a Space hosted by New York Times reporter, Ryan Mac, has currently engaged over 800 people, discussing the outage, despite the inability to see new posts.
Moreover, this outage has impacted major accounts, including those of owner/CTO Elon Musk, Support, and X CEO Linda Yaccarino, making their contents inaccessible.
Also learned was that the API Status page for the service has not shown any ongoing issues.
According to DownDetector reports, the problems started just before 12:30 AM ET; currently, there is no clear information about the cause or when the service will be back up.
This equally marks another disruption for the platform, following an issue with outgoing links last week.
Despite attempts to get clarification through the platform’s PR account email, users received only an automated “Busy now, please check back later” response.
Moreso, premium service users and those awaiting payment updates will need to find alternative channels for information about X’s status.
Downdetector, a service monitoring online platform outages, has received a staggering 70,000 reports of users facing difficulties with the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
As of now, no official statement or information has been released regarding the root cause of this widespread issue.
X faced similar downtime incidents earlier this year in March and July, with over 13,000 outages reported in the United States and the United Kingdom in July. Users encountered a message then saying, “Sorry, you are rate limited. Please wait a few moments then try again.”
