The University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka, appointed Prof Folasade Ogunsola as the female Vice-Chancellor since its establishment 60 years ago.
Ogunsola emerged the best among the seven candidates shortlisted for the top job. She will succeed Professor Ogundipe when the latter’s five-year tenure elapses in November.

Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola was born in 1958.
She was raised at the University of Ibadan where her father, Akin Mabogunje, was a lecturer.
A product of Queen’s College, Lagos, Ogunsola obtained her first degree from University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, and a Master’s degree from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos between 1974 and 1982.
She proceeded to University of Wales for her doctorate between 1992 and 1997.
The 64-year-old professor was provost of College of Medicine, University of Lagos and is reputed as being the first woman to occupy the position.
She has also been the chairman of Infection Control Committee of Lagos University Teaching Hospital. Additionally, she is the chairman of the National Association of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria.
Ogunsola was a founding member of the Nigerian Society for Infection control in 1998 and is also a member of the Global Infection Prevention and control Network.
