In the wake of the recent military coup in Gabon, Isaac Kofi Agyei, an analyst from SBM Intelligence, has offered insights into the situation. During an interview on Arise TV, Agyei addressed critical issues plaguing the country.
Agyei pointed out that Gabon faces significant corruption concerns, earning itself a high ranking in this undesirable category. One alarming factor is the enduring reign of a single family, which has held power in the country for over half a century. Despite being an oil-rich nation and a member of OPEC, Gabon continues to grapple with economic hardships that its citizens are still enduring.
Gabon’s oil exports amount to more than $3 billion annually, a substantial figure that could substantially improve the country’s well-being. However, the benefits of this wealth have not trickled down to the people as expected. Agyei emphasized that given Gabon’s oil resources and its place in the global oil market, the country should be experiencing economic growth that positively impacts its citizens.

He said:
“If you look at Gabon for example, the country is ranked really high for corruption. People have said that there’s a huge amount of corruption going on in the country, one family have ruled the country for more than 50 years and with it’s oil, the country is still suffering. This is a country that shouldn’t be suffering, the country is a member of OPEC and exports more than $3B worth of oil per year.
