Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has taken decisive steps to alleviate the hardship on residents by implementing significant measures aimed at improving their welfare.
In a bid to ease transportation expenses for citizens, Governor Sanwo-Olu has approved a 25% reduction in fares for government-operated transport services.
This reduction, effective immediately, applies to all state-owned transportation systems, including BRT buses, trains, and ferries.
Furthermore, addressing concerns about the strain of commuting to work, especially during these challenging times, the governor has implemented a flexible work arrangement for civil servants.
Employees from levels 1 to 14 will now work remotely twice a week, while those from levels 15 to 17 will have the option to work from home once a week.
“We want to start with our public servants, immediately from next week, Civil servants from the lower level will be working like 3 times a week and level 15-17 can work 4 times in a week,” he said.
“Not that all forms of government will be shut down. It will be calendarised and scheduled. Those on level 15 to 17 will miss work for one day.
“The 25% reduction on Transport services will start this weekend for the State Public Transport system (BRT, Train, Ferry),” he said.
In addition to these reforms, the governor announced plans to bolster food security in the state.
Lagos is set to receive 300 trailer loads of food supplies, which will be distributed to those most in need.
To further enhance food distribution, the government will establish four food hubs across the state, with more locations planned for the future.
Moreover, Governor Sanwo-Olu unveiled initiatives to make essential food items more accessible to residents.
“We will open Sunday Markets in at least 42 identified markets across Lagos State. You will be able to buy food items at a discounted price. You will only need able to buy items worth up to N25,000.”
“Coupled with the one at Idi-Oro, Mushin, four more food hubs are under construction and 7 other locations in other local governments have also been identified for more food hubs to be developed,” he said.
