Asue Ighodalo, a leading contender in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary race in Edo State, clinched victory in the polls held on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
With a total of 577 votes, Ighodalo secured the win in a parallel election conducted amidst heightened anticipation.
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, serving as the Chairman of the Edo Electoral Committee, officially declared Ighodalo the winner of the keenly contested primary.
Notably, Ighodalo enjoys the backing of the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, making his triumph a pivotal moment in the state’s political landscape.
In a separate development, Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, emerged victorious in another parallel governorship primary of the PDP.
Amidst a jubilant atmosphere, an official, clad in a yellow T-shirt and black Fez cap, announced Shaibu’s victory, garnering 301 votes.
A video circulating online captured Shaibu celebrating with numerous supporters following the announcement of his win.
