The Rivers State Police Command has successfully retrieved the body of Gift Okpara, also known as “2 Baba,” a notorious figure implicated in the killing of former Divisional Police Officer Bako Angbashim in Odiemudie community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state last September.
The operation, carried out under the veil of darkness on Thursday, saw the exhumation of Okpara’s remains, which were subsequently transported to the town.
A police source, preferring anonymity, disclosed, “This operation took place at midnight on Thursday, and his body was exhumed and taken to town.”
Initial reports of Okpara’s demise surfaced last week when the police announced his death during a joint security raid in Idu-Ekpeye community in Ahoada East. However, loyalists of the alleged cult leader managed to seize his body and evade capture.
In a coordinated effort based on intelligence gathering, law enforcement operatives penetrated the hideout of Okpara’s followers, tracking them deep into a forest where his body had been buried.
Responding to these developments, the state police command has slated a media briefing for 11 am today to give journalists comprehensive details regarding the recovery of Okpara’s body.
