Adams Oshiomhole, the senator representing Edo North, has voiced concerns about the lingering impact of what he calls the “careless” decisions made during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In an interview on Channels Television, Oshiomhole emphasized that current President Tinubu should not bear the blame for the outcomes of past governmental actions.
He asserted his loyalty to the nation, stating that he criticized certain policies of the Buhari administration that he believed were detrimental to the populace.
One such policy, according to Oshiomhole, was the redesign of currency, which he opposed due to its adverse effects on Nigerians. He expressed relief in not being alone in his dissent, noting that other governors also contested these policies in court.
“My first loyalty is to the Nigerian nation. At some point, before the last president left office, I lamented loudly what I saw as reckless policies that were designed to dehumanise the population that was already in pain,” he said.
“I felt that it is not what the then president promised. I dissociated myself from those policies and I’m happy that I was not the only one.
“There were governors who approached the court to denounce some of those policies.
“It is the long term consequences of those policies that we are still grappling with now.”
