Nigerians have continued to express shock and anger following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) arrest of the Accountant General of the Federation, (AGF) Ahmed Idris over N80 billion fraud.
The AGF’s arrest was made public in a statement by the EFCC, where the anti-graft agency disclosed that he amassed illicit funds through “bogus consultancies and other illegal activities”, using family, associates and proxies.
The statement further revealed that the ill-gotten funds were laundered through real estate investments in Abuja and Kano.

Reacting to the news, some social media users moaned that despite the challenges facing the nation, public officials were only interested in stealing scarce funds which could have been optimally used.
