In a recent interview at Lagos State University, former Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), expressed his unwavering commitment to serving in President Bola Tinubu’s administration without the need for any official title.
Fashola, a close associate of Tinubu, shared his perspective on the administration’s goal of nurturing the next generation of leaders.
During his visit to the university to deliver a keynote address at the institution’s fifth research and innovation fair, Fashola, who previously served as the Governor of Lagos State and as Tinubu’s Chief of Staff during Tinubu’s governorship, was asked about his role in the current federal administration and the possibility of receiving an appointment.
Fashola responded, “I do not need a title to serve. The president can only appoint at least one minister from each state, and he has already done so. There are limited positions in government agencies, and with an estimated population of 200 million, there simply aren’t enough offices for everyone.
Every citizen must fulfill their responsibilities, and a title is not a prerequisite for service. The most important title one can hold is that of a citizen. We are also concerned about nurturing the next generation. If some individuals do not step aside, where will the upcoming leaders find their place?”
