The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has taken a swipe at the opposition candidate, Atiku Abubakar over his accusation that he accused President Muhammadu Buhari of sabotaging his election.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Director (Media & Publicity) at APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), on Thursday January 26, Tinubu said he never took a swipe at the president as Atiku’s camp speculated.

Recall that during a rally at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Tinubu had said that some persons were using the Naira redesign and fuel scarcity as means to sabotage his electoral chances.
Onanuga said “For the records, Asiwaju Tinubu during APC campaign rally at Abeokuta on Wednesday, in his statement, did not mention, blame or accuse President Muhammadu Buhari for the current challenges in the country.
He said Tinubu only re-echoed that there are fifth columnists in and outside of government who often throw spanners in the works against good intentions and programmes of the government.
Onanuga accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being behind the speculations that Tinubu took the swipe against President Buhari.
Recall that, in a statement by Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant (Public Communication) to PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, accused Tinubu of attacking President Buhari.
Shaibu said, “Obviously frustrated by his inability to stop the cashless policy and currency redesign of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that will curb vote buying and enhance the credibility of next month’s election, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has begun crying over his imminent defeat.”
Onanuga, in his response said “Nigerians should no longer be in doubt about those working in cahoots with fifth columnists in the system to inflict avoidable pains on our hapless people for political end.
He said further, “PDP and Atiku should remember not to get high on their own smoke. No political blackmail and an attempt to create a conflict between Tinubu and his long-term ally, President Muhammadu Buhari can succeed.
“We have bad news for Atiku and his handlers: their latest mischief is therefore doomed to fail.
“The Atiku rudderless campaign, always seeking cheap shots and easy ways has again woefully attempted to make a mountain out of a molehill from the comments made by Asiwaju Tinubu in Abeokuta.”

“Atiku camp’s hasty move to mine political capital out of the clearly difficult situation betrays his campaign’s possible connivance, due to its desperation.
“Atiku and his team can continue their indulgence in fake news and twisted narratives, they cannot change the minds of majority of Nigerians who have long rejected the PDP and Atiku, after their 16 wasted years in power,” the statement added.
