In response to the alleged assault on the President of the National Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has issued a directive for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The order was made public through a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra, fCAI.
According to the statement, the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with leading the inquiry to ascertain the true facts surrounding the incident. This move comes in light of the varying accounts received by the police, necessitating a thorough examination to dispel any ambiguities.
Recognizing the significance of transparency and accountability in upholding public trust, the Nigeria Police Force emphasized its commitment to conducting an unbiased inquiry.
IGP Egbetokun assured the public, particularly the leadership of organized labour, that the investigation would be diligent in providing clarifications. He urged both organized labour and the public to remain calm, emphasizing his personal intervention to address the issues surrounding the alleged assault.
The investigation has already commenced, and the Nigeria Police Force pledged to see it through to a conclusive end. Based on the findings, appropriate actions will be taken to address the incident.
