Following the controversial death of actor Junior Pope and three fellow crew members in a boat accident on Anam River in Anambra, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has taken a firm stand for safety.
Emeka Rollas, the National President of AGN, has declared Thursday, April 11, as a solemn “No Shoot Day” for all Nollywood filmmakers.
Rollas expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, which occurred during the filming of ‘The Other Side of Life,’ produced by Adamma Luke.
He stressed the need for immediate action, stating, “Following the tragic incident of a boat mishap that claimed the life of Junior Pope and three other crew members… all films that involve riverine areas and boat riding are hereby suspended indefinitely.”
The suspension extends nationwide, with Rollas making it clear that no filming activities would take place on April 11, 2024. Furthermore, ‘The Other Side of Life’ production is halted until further notice.
In a strong stance on safety protocols, Rollas announced a temporary ban on actors working with Adamma Luke as a producer.
Rollas concluded with a heartfelt message, saying, “May their souls rest in peace.”
