The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, has opted to defer its judgment in the appeal filed by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, who is contesting his removal by the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.
In a recall of events, the tribunal invalidated Yusuf’s election on September 20, citing 165,663 votes as invalid due to unauthenticated ballot papers that lacked the signature or stamp of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Consequently, the tribunal declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, as the victor of the governorship election.
Discontent with the tribunal’s decision, Governor Yusuf has taken his case to the Court of Appeal, urging the court to overturn the prior judgment.
