Olayinka Braimoh, the Action Alliance governorship candidate in Kogi State, was briefly detained by security agencies in Kabba, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area.
The apprehension arose when his aides and party officials couldn’t reach him on the phone, initially sparking fears of a possible kidnap.
According to his media aide, Musa Yakubu, Braimoh and seven security details were arrested after campaign materials were reportedly found in his car.
Despite concerns about his safety, it was later clarified that the police were responsible for the arrest.
Yakubu explained;
“The last time I heard from him was in the morning when he called from Kabba town, but all attempts to get through to him since that time proved abortive.
“His mobile lines have been switched off, including that of his entourage.”
“We later heard that he was arrested with his entourage at Kabba. He has been released but his security detail is still detained. He is still with them at the station.”
Braimoh, unable to cast his vote due to the incident, had raised concerns about political motives behind his detainment.
