The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have issued a new strike notice to the Federal Government. This decision comes in the wake of recent attack and assault on NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and other union members.
During a press briefing on Friday, leaders of NLC and TUC presented a clear six-point demand to the Federal Government. Their demands include the immediate removal of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, and other officials allegedly involved in the mistreatment of Comrade Ajaero and other union leaders.
The unions have set November 8 as the ultimatum for the government to meet their demands. Failing this, a nationwide strike will commence.
The attack on Ajaero and other national leaders occurred during a scheduled protest over pending labor issues, including unpaid salaries, allowances, pensions, and non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage Act.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, leading to calls for justice. The NLC and TUC leaders are set to convene next Tuesday to decide on the next course of action.
