The Lagos State Government assures that all gates removed from the Lekki area remain intact and will be reinstated to their respective zones after reaching an amicable agreement on reinstallation modalities.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized that any agreement must include a provision specifying that the gates cannot be closed before midnight and must have personnel ensuring smooth entry and exit for residents.
Wahab clarified that the decision to remove all gates aimed to avoid accusations of selectively choosing streets for gate removal.
The Commissioner spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting with members of the Lekki Residents Association, accompanied by his transport counterpart, Oluwaseun Oshiyemi, in the Alausa area of the state.
He acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, emphasizing that it was necessary to regulate operations at Lekki 1, a government scheme, and ensure fairness across the area.
