Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, a former counsel to Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Igboho, has on Facebook called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to discipline its staff over touting at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos; and other airports across the country.
The legal practitioner, who stated this last night, said it was an embarrassment to Nigeria that DSS officers vetting people coming into the country, beg for money.
According to him; “One can forgive Immigration and Customs officers because this is simply customary, but that a very important agency like the DSS….is shocking. This is a wake up call to DG DSS.
“The entire world is moving on from petty irresponsibility, people are not being delayed for security questioning, but with abeg bless your boy”, he wrote.
In a swift reaction, Peter Afunanya, DSS Public Relations Officer, announced that an investigation has commenced into the allegation.
Afunanya urged Olajengbesi and any member of the public with evidence of similar allegations, to forward same for appropriate action.
It is not uncommon to see immigration, customs personnel and other airport workers, shamelessly begging for tips from travellers at airports across Nigeria.
