Lille has been directed by a court decision to compensate former coach Marcelo Bielsa with €2 million. This financial settlement follows a legal dispute arising from Bielsa’s dismissal as Lille manager in 2017.
His suspension followed a series of disappointing results that saw the club plummet into the relegation zone and a rift with former Lille sporting director Luís Campos.
Initially, the Uruguay national team manager sought €19 million in compensation from Les Dogues after his termination, but this claim was rejected. Upon appeal, the Douai Court of Appeal has now ruled in favor of Bielsa, ordering Lille to pay him €2 million in damages due to a penal clause in his former contract, which was signed in February 2017.
Notably, the court upheld the terms of this initial contract, rather than the one signed in July, which was recognized by the LFP.
Bielsa had previously taken legal action against Marseille over unpaid salary, leading to a settlement being reached.
