Liverpool’s head coach, Jurgen Klopp, has issued an apology following criticism from the Egyptian national team regarding his comments on Mohamed Salah’s injury.
Rui Vitória, the manager of the Pharaohs, expressed his displeasure after the extent of Salah’s hamstring issue became known just before a crucial Africa Cup of Nations clash.
The Egyptian Football Association had initially reported that Salah would miss two upcoming matches due to the injury, but conflicting information later suggested he might only be fit for the competition’s final.
Klopp, after Liverpool’s victory over Bournemouth, announced that Salah would return to Anfield for treatment, drawing further criticism.
In anticipation of Liverpool’s FA Cup match against Norwich City, Klopp aimed to mend relations with Egypt, stating, “We have the exact same target as Egypt—make Mo as fit as quickly as possible.”
Klopp emphasized the mutual ambition for Salah’s recovery and clarified that if the player is fit early and Egypt progresses in the tournament, he would return.
While Salah’s return to Liverpool colors is pending, Klopp is optimistic about having more options for the Norwich clash, with players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Andy Robertson back in contention. Klopp acknowledged that decisions regarding their involvement would depend on their readiness.
