Former senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani, in a recent post on his official Twitter account, raised concerns over one of the ministerial nominees put forth by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for screening by the Senate.
While Sani refrained from naming the nominee, he emphasized a troubling incident from the past that casts doubt on the nominee’s credibility.
Reflecting on the past event, Shehu Sani advised that President Bola Tinubu and other Presidents to come shouldn’t trust anyone who in the past talked proudly about fighting a President (Umara Musa Yar’adua) and causing his death.

In his words, he wrote:
The Man who PUBLICLY boasted and gloated that he fought President Yar’adua and sent him to his grave, shouldn’t be trusted by any President now or in the future.

Was He Referring to El-Rufai?
It is no secret that both men don’t see eye to eye, right from when they were both members of the Kaduna APC.
The QUEST TIMES recalls that Mr El-Rufai, in 2017 at the Kaduna APC stakeholders meeting held at Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna made a comment in line with Sani’s tweet.
El-Rufai said, “I had fought with two presidents, Umaru Yar’Adua ended in his grave, while President Goodluck Jonathan ended in Otueke.”
So, even though Senator Sani didn’t mention any name, it’s clear that he was referring to El-Rufia, who is among the ministerial nominees.
In the course of their fight, El-Rufai had also slammed a N2bn defamation suit against Shehu Sani, which was ultimately thrown out by a Kaduna High Court in June 2023.
